Basic computer components
A list
- CPUs
- Motherboards
- RAM
- Power Supply
- Hard Drive
CPUs
CPU is short for Central Processing Unit. The CPU carries out instructions the operating system or other hardware tells it to. It in short, does lots of math and is probably the most powerful part of the Computer. It does everything from put word on a document to streaming 4k movies over the internet.
Motherboards
Motherboards are a housing unit for the CPUs the RAM and lots of other things. Their main function is to act as a power distributor and an information distributor. Motherboards also focus on the way information is transferred and the speed it's being transferred between hardware and other components.
RAM
RAM is short for Random Access Memory. Is another form of computer storage these tiny little sticks are like the CPU but is changeable and the computer isn't as demanding as it is for the CPU. You don't need too much Ram if your doing lightweight stuff like browsing the internet and writing documents. For choosing ram you'll want might want to have a look at this video
Power Supplies
A power supply is one of the most important parts of a computer as it converts power from the wall to the computers necessary power wattage for all the components and protects it from a power surge.
Hard Drives
Hard Drives have to be one of my favourite components. The hard drive houses all of the data for the computer. There are 3 types of hard drives, one of them not even being a hard drive at all. The first type being an actual mechanical hard drive, which can store more data than the other types of hard drives but wears out faster. The second type is an SSD. SSD is short for Solid State Drive, this means that there are absolutely no moving parts in the unit whereas the mechanical hard drive has a spinning disk that is read by a read head. Kind of like a DVD or CD. The last hard drive would be a mix of both so a hybrid drive.
